Transportation Guide in Dubai

Dubai is one of the most modern cities in the United Arab Emirates, and its transportation infrastructure is highly developed. There are numerous options in the city, including metro, bus, tram, taxi, and water taxi. A single payment system called Nol Card is used for public transportation.

Metro and Bus

Transportation in Dubai The Dubai Metro is a highly advanced rail system with two lines (Red and Green). The driverless trains are comfortable and fast; every carriage features a dedicated section for women and children, as well as private Gold Class compartments. The metro typically starts operating at 05:00 and runs until midnight (until 01:00 on Friday nights). The Nol Card is used for journeys and is valid for all other forms of public transport. A extensive bus network is available throughout Dubai. RTA buses reach almost all areas, and every bus is equipped with air conditioning. A total of 2,185 bus stops and 17 terminals are in service; 554 of these stops feature climate-controlled waiting areas. You can view departure times on screens at the stops. Additionally, the Dubai Tram is an option that supports public transport around the Marina and JBR areas (fully integrated with the metro).

Water Taxis and Marine Transportation

Dubai Water Taxi Traditional water taxis (abras) remain popular in Dubai. You can travel between the West and East banks of the Dubai Creek using abra boats; a one-way fare is only 1 AED. This economical option is ideal for those who wish to experience the city's historical atmosphere. There is also a Water Taxi service in the Dubai Marina area. Air-conditioned boats operate between Marina Terrace, Marina Walk, Dubai Marina Mall, and Marina Promenade; the fare between stops is 7 AED, and the full route is 21 AED. Dubai also serves 6 different marine routes via a modern ferry service; Nol cards are also valid on these routes.

Taxis and Ride-Sharing

Taxis in Dubai provide 24/7 service. Taxis belonging to the Dubai Taxi Corporation are white and operated by the RTA. They are metered and can be easily found at any point in the city. "Pink taxis" with female drivers are also available; these vehicles serve only female passengers. All taxis offer credit card or contactless payment options. Additionally, you can request a vehicle from any location using Uber or the local Careem app. These services are generally slightly more expensive than standard taxi fares but offer extra comfort and flexibility.

Dubai Air Taxis

Dubai is investing in the transportation technologies of the future. With the flying taxi service planned to launch in 2026, the city will begin using electric air vehicles capable of carrying four passengers plus a pilot. According to official announcements, these air taxis are zero-emission, have a range of 161 km, and a speed of 320 km/h. Air taxi stations will be located at Dubai Airport, Downtown, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. As a result, a 45-minute road journey between Dubai Airport and Palm Jumeirah will be reduced to only 10 minutes.
